Welcome to NHL Playoff Prediction 2014, where you predict how the Stanley Cup Playoffs will unfold.Who wins? How many games?Picking the correct results earns you points and improves your ranking in the standings. This Help page will tell you how it works.
How It Works
The first thing you need to do is sign up.
You can register by giving me a name (whatever you’d like to see show up on the Leaderboard), an email address, and your favorite sports team. The email address is so I can contact you each round to let you know you can make your picks, and your favorite sports team acts as your password.
You’ll be asked for your email address and your favorite sports team each time you log in.
Next, you’ll make your first round picks for the Conference Quarterfinals.
Each matchup in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is a best-of-seven game series, so you’ll pick the team you think is going to win the series, and also how many games you think it will take them to win it.
You can update your picks as much as you’d like until puck drop of the first game of that round. To update your picks, log into NHL Playoff Prediction 2014 and go to the Make Your Picks! page.
Once the first game starts your picks will be locked in, and you can no longer make changes. At this point, the Make Your Picks! page will display everyone’s picks for that round.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs don’t follow a fixed bracket, so teams are re-seeded after each round, ensuring the stronger teams continue to play the weaker teams until deeper in the playoffs. Because of this, you’ll submit picks before the start of each round.
I’ll shoot you a note to let you know when you can make picks for the Conference Semifinals, the Conference Finals, and the Stanley Cup Finals.
For each series, points will be awarded if the winner of the series in predicted. Points will also be awarded if the number of games is correctly predicted (even if the winner was not predicted). If both the winner and the number of games of a series are predicted, a bonus will be awarded.
The following table breaks down the scoring, per series, for each round of the NHL Playoff Prediction 2014.
|Round||Predicting Winner||Predicting Games||Bonus*|
|Conference Quarterfinals||4 points||2 points||2 points|
|Conference Semifinals||8 points||4 points||4 points|
|Conference Finals||16 points||8 points||8 points|
|Stanley Cup Finals||32 points||16 points||16 points|
|*Bonus points are only awarded if both the winner of the series and the number of games are predicted correctly|
Keep in mind, it’s never too late to mount a comeback in the playoffs!
Once the playoffs begin, you’ll be able to see where you rank by checking out the Leaderboard. Your points will populate as matchups are won so you can see how you stack up.
